Face your fear - Issue #8
COVER REVEAL - THE SADEIEST NEW EDITION
Look at that beauty! It's a very different feel to the original cover, but I wanted something that only I owned (the previous cover was Adobe stock), and that set a standard - Daniele Serra designed the typeface to be something consistent throughout the series, and it's really striking - especially on the spine. He managed to get Mortis blended in as I asked - which gives hints to actually what type of creature Mortis is, which is a reveal in The Masocheist.
The Logo @thebookdad made for me has become my Press name - Austrian Horror - so a big shout out to him and the fantastic work he and @DarklitPress do 🤜🤛
This is going out to you guys first, so please keep it under wraps, the official cover reveal will be mid-month in October. Daniele Serra did the lush cover art, and he's already working on the mock-ups for The Masocheist and The Dawn Chorus - I want the "feel" and "style" to be continued in my books - and while I can't show you anything from The Masocheist yet, I can say that it'll feature Famine as a prominent figure, and Pez will also be making his cover debut in his many bodies :D
To tie in with the reveal, Daniele is also working together with an animator, and they are animating a book trailer for me, which will be awesome. Again, as soon as I get it, you folks will be getting eyes on it first 🤜🤛
The new edition is being formatted by the massively talented Ross Jeffery (Bram Stoker Nominee) of Tome, Juniper, Only the stains remain - fame and will include some new material for the collectors amongst you out there that want more goodies. On release, I'll be doing a competition again with more of the original artwork to give away, plus some merch that I'm having made.
Ok, that's all the news on the book, what else have I been up to?
What have I been reading?
Lots. I mean, lots and lots. I and my wife Marge got to go on holiday for two weeks without our kids - the first time alone for two weeks in 22 years - both kids are now old enough to be self sufficient and had other things to do - study and party - that we took off to Croatia, where I indulged in a two week reading binge along with swimming and eating healthily (in moderation).
Those of you who follow me on Twitter might have seen the pictures I posted of our trip, but the real story was being told on GoodReads, where I went through 14-16 books (it's a little obscure because two of them are ARC's and might change - so I couldn't count them).
Those reviews are going to be clubbed together in one large review, my summer bonanza. I'm halfway through writing it, and then due praise will be leveled at them, but I loved Savage, from Dan Soule, Parachute by Holly Rea Garcia, True Crime by Sam Kolesnik - amongst others. A horrific time was had! You'll get to read my thoughts soon.
What have I been listening to?
I don't listen to music when I write, I need my focus on my writing, but I listen to a playlist I compile for the novel I am working on at the moment, to absorb in the car as I drive to and from work every day, and The Masocheist has it's own.
I can't say I like all of the songs on this one - I know that's weird, but there it is, these songs do, however, capture moments of mood for the events in the book. I start off with the magnificent Agnes Obel's Fuel to fire - something very, very bad happens to John, and the direct aftermath changes Death's course forever, and that moment of absolute loss and the world-changing events it brings about, well, this one song basically captures the entire mood of the Masocheist.
The rest do similar justice to scenes in the book, but man, that song...
and that's all for now...
I'll keep this short, if you have any thoughts about the cover, let me know. Just give a comment below or dm me on Twitter. I'll also be looking for ARC readers for the Masocheist at the end of November, if anyone is interested in pre-reading it, again, shout.
Folks - stay safe, and live life.
